  Legal Firm Faces Age-Bias Lawsuit

One of the nation's largest law firms is facing an age-discrimination lawsuit. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is accusing the Chicago-based firm of Sidley, Austin, Brown and Wood of demoting and pushing out older partners in violation of federal law.

Definition:
A witness's ability to observe, recall and recount under oath what happened. Criminal defendants must also be competent to stand trial; they must understand the nature of the proceedings and have the ability to assist their lawyers.
